One of the great Indian saints of modern times, Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, of which we are an affiliated center.

His teachings are a synthesis of all the formal doctrines of Yoga.  Author of over three hundred books, Swami Sivananda was a medical doctor before renouncing worldy life for the spiritual path.  His teachings continue to enrich the lives of millions around the world.

His main message was: Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize. In 1957, he sent one of his foremost disciples, Swami Vishnu Devananda to the west to spread the ideals of Yoga.

Born in south India, Swami Vishnudevananda entered the Ashram of Swami Sivananda at the age of 18.

A world authority on hatha and raja yoga, Swamiji was sent to the West by his master Swami Sivananda and founded the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers in 1957. He was a tireless campaigner for world peace, flying over war zones such as Israel and Palestine, Northern Ireland, the Berlin Wall during the 1960s and 1970s risking his life to disseminate the message of peace. He is author of the now classic Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga and Meditation and Mantras.

Bharata

Bharata, a senior disciple of Swami Vishnu Devananda and the director of Yoga & Inner Peace, spent fifteen year with his teacher serving in many capacities at facilities around the world,  He spent the majority of this time at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas.

Bharata  founded Yoga & Inner on June 18, 1994.

His teaching is characterized by a joyful, positive, can-do attitude.  Whether you are new to yoga or an old-timer, advanced student, Bharata's spirit and energy will take you beyond your self-imposed limitations.
